Quest For A Water Garden Store - A Northern Adventure
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

Consider me impulsive, but the moment I realized that there was quite a sizable piece of land on my backyard that for years have only played host to weeds and pests, one thing - and one thing only - came to my mind.

That's right! A water garden!

So for many nights after that momentous realization, I formulated the schematics of the water garden of my dreams. I planned, and planned, and planned, and the landscaping techniques I wasn't familiar with I supplemented with hours upon hours of research over the internet.

I was proud of the blueprint I came up with, and I couldn't wait to put it into action.

Using a checklist I downloaded from the internet, I went out in search for the materials I will need. They seemed familiar enough to be carried by most retailers - or so I thought. I mean, how could they not carry power pumps, power filters, plumbing tubes, skimmers and the likes?

Lo and behold, was I wrong!

Searching for the necessary supplies was quite an exhausting experience. I went home empty-handed. I couldn't find a single water garden store in my vicinity. So I promised myself to go to the nearest town the following day to find the things that I would need to build my water garden.

The next day proved to be just as futile. Even the nearby town had no water garden store in sight.

I guess its one of the downsides about living in a cold, northern state.

Just as I was about to give up my dream of having my very own water garden, my daughter provided the inspiration that I needed.

"Daddy, Aunt Nora just sent you an email!" she screamed during my sadness.

And it hit me!

Email!

Internet!

Quickly, I searched for online retailers of water garden supplies on the internet. I chose a digital water garden store in a nearby state, of course, to save up on shipping and commercial interstate taxes. Those supplies can be heavy, and if I wasn't careful, my credit card might've taken a beating.

I found one. And within 3 days, the water garden supplies came.

Right now, I am sharing with you my story. And as I type these words in my computer, I am staring out the window, occasionally marveling at the water garden I have set up and the many, many joys it has brought to me and my family since I built it with my own hands a year and a half ago.

Yup. It was an arduous journey to procure the needed supplies.

But it was a journey worth taking.
